[hmm]

1) i fail to understand why the x-files: i want to believe merits a three disc special edition. seriously.

2) i want to do that flickr meme, because everyone else has such pretty mosaics, but for my first name i got three pages of trashy party pictures, jaci velasquez, and a wedding. barf.

3) yesterday we took a donation of 15 boxes of new books from borders. and the holiday season only just started. yikes.

4) last night i discovered this album on my computer. i don't know. it's the internet. these things happen. i hadn't unzipped it before, and i do not know why, because it is basically the most hilarious thing ever. if i had internet at home i would have uploaded "all out of love" for y'all, so maybe it's for the best that i don't. but really, i could not stop laughing. i am sure my neighbors think i am a crazy person.

5) should i work? should i shop for yarn? should i eat lunch? oh, the possibilities.

[what i actually did (since i know you all are dying of curiosity)]

in the apartment:

* rewatched "wonderfalls" & "black books".
* finished knitting the lady sweater. it's blocking right now, and, since i wet-blocked it, it will be blocking for days. also, it still needs buttons.
* finished reading the president's daughter, touching snow, gingerbread, and what i was. am apparently still on a YA streak.
* knitted a foliage hat out of malabrigo. in lettuce. am currently laboring under the delusion that i can pull this look off.
* cooked. frequently, for me.
* cleaned a bit & did laundry.
* did a bunch of long overdue computer housekeeping stuff, which involved bringing home my work laptop & cleaning my desk, both of which are Major Tasks. if you're me. which i am.

out of the apartment:

* discovered ... that city center has wifi
* ... that the jesus people are out in force (not just for the tree lighting, with the "ironic" buy-more-stuff people)
* ... and that the eggnoggiest eggnog latte so far is at peet's. it's actually *too* eggnoggy.
* saw slumdog millionaire & milk. both with an actual other person. go me!
* listened to amazing conversations (like the two or three girls in a washroom trying & failing to define "passive-aggressive", and the girl at the coffee shop who is going to write a book about how in the past year she's been having an affair & yet also, like, totally going to church a lot.)
* um. that doesn't sound like very much, but i swear, i left the apartment every day. i even took some pictures. i might finally manage to update the real life blog this week to prove it.

Seen all over the place...

I tired to do the photo mosaic meme, but every single picture I chose--and I made sure to choose ones that weren't protected--came up blank. Every single one. :( So I did this meme instead.

The "Be Pete Wentz" Poetry Meme

01. Put your music player on shuffle
02. The first lines of twenty songs = a poem; the first line of the twenty-first song is the title

It was interesting and not as Vogon as I expected. :)

WHEEEEE!!!

They did it!!! The house is saved!!!

They've taken down the PayPal button since the goal was never to make a profit, but hopefully folks who wanted to contribute but were too late will donate to a good charity.

Wheee! Happy 2nd Day After Thanksgiving, y'all. :D

Done and done! or Game Hens and Gratitude!

Dinner is over and the dishes are washed! Go me! *does victory dance*

food talk )

This hasn't exactly been the greatest year for us. Never the less, I'm grateful for my wonderful friends, my great family and my lovely wife. I'm grateful that this country elected a President we can be proud of and I'm grateful that, even though it took a defeat to do it, my people and our allies are energized and ready to fight for our rights.

I hope all of you had a wonderful Thanksgiving or an enjoyable Thursday!

♥!!

Heteronormativity and Hopefulness

This year, Thanksgiving at Chez Rozilla turned unintentionally heteronormative: [info]telesilla did all of the cooking, while I sat downstairs and ran Positron's Task Force in CoH. (Hey, at least I wasn't watching football.) Like I said, it wasn't intentional; I didn't realize that the TF was that long when I accepted the team invite. I did contribute to dinner by running out to RiteAid after we realized that we'd never replaced the corkscrew that broke ages ago. And everything was delicious: the Cornish game hens with pomegranate glaze, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes in cranberry-orange sauce (thank you, Trader Joe's), mustard greens, a bottle of cabernet for Ruth and white zin for me (thanks again, TJ's!). And if we can ever eat again, there's vanilla bean cheesecake from the Cheesecake Factory for dessert.

I'm not going to do the requisite "what I'm thankful for" post this year, because frankly, 2008 was mostly full of suck, and what I'm most thankful for is that it wasn't any worse. Instead, I'm going to look forward to the things that I'm hopeful about:

1. I'm hopeful that now that my mother's in the hospital, she'll be able to get the treatment that she needs. I know I'm never going to get the mother I remember back, but at least maybe she can get to a point where she's not constantly unhappy and angry and making everyone around her miserable.

2. I'm hopeful that the California Supreme Court will recognize that the civil rights of a minority--any minority--should never be left to the popular vote, and that Proposition 8 will be overturned so that I can be married again.

3. I'm hopeful that with an intelligent, competent President in the White House, there's a chance we can avoid hurtling off the cliff we've been careening toward for the past eight years. No, Obama's not the Great Progressive Hope, but he appears to be a genuinely thoughtful man who cares about all of the people of this country, and who wants America to live up to its promise.

4. I'm hopeful that 2009 will suck less than 2008, for everyone.

Here goes

Via [info]wordweaverlynn, help a family keep their home.

I figure it's probably not a scam or they wouldn't also be asking people who can't donate to email two local television stations in support of getting a human interest story done on the family in question.

(Yep, I donated. Also, there's an update here.)

[info]marginalia

[i can be productive? no. probably not.]

things i should do this weekend, in no particular order:

in the house:

* work on [info]yuletide.
* bake & cook.
* finish the lady sweater.
* start hat and/or mitts and/or scarf and/or a crocheted rug.
* clean. boo.

out of the house:

* see the paperboys or the decemberists.
* see at least one movie (suggestions?).
* spend a disgusting amount of time at at least one coffee shop with free wifi.
* take pictures of downtown christmas stuff.

[info]telesilla

here we go again....

I'm sick. Which, you know, is just fun seeing as I have to cook tomorrow. So if you don't see me around the internets it's because I'm resting up.

[info]marginalia

[do de do]

i am not sure what i love more: this slog post re twilight & guilty pleasures, or comment number three on said post.

comment three gets points for being extremely succinct.

anyway. i might have a post of substance later. i might not. i suddenly find myself without thanksgiving plans, so i am trying to figure out awesome things to do other than "stay home and knit", which is what i do every other damn day, including holidays.

so.

i am thinking of ordering a set of tinkertoys to make a swift. please talk me out of it.

Christmas means wishlists, right?

Those of you with friends and family who shop for you through your Amazon wish list, or who have friends and family whose Amazon's wishlists you use, might be interested in the universal wishlist button, if you don't know about it already. Using it, you can add things from non-amazon sites to your Amazon list.

Here's how.

Also, it turns out that the harddrive is still under warranty, so that's something.

[info]marginalia

[why am i covered in cereal?]

i am cold and cranky and i don't feel well and i'm swamped at work but totally unable to focus to actually *do* anything and i have a headache and i want to go home and sleep and then watch "sports night" and maybe knit.

this weekend i had a dream that i bought a gorgeous swift for $27, and i am still a little bitter that it wasn't true. maybe it's a sign.

i am also wanting to cheat on my lady sweater, which is to me a clear sign that knitalongs are good for me. otherwise i would have tossed it aside the first time i had to frog back for pooling, and i'd now have two hats, a half a pair of stranded mitts, and a pair of socks instead. i keep downloading patterns and eyeing my stash, but if i Actually Knit this week, i should have no trouble finishing it. seriously.

anyway.

[info]telesilla

*cries*

So our external harddrive, the one with a ton of music and a rather large number of TV shows on it, suddenly decided to stop working. It's humming louder than usual and then it chirps every 15-20 seconds. And when I plug it in, my machine doesn't recognize it.

I'm in a crappy mood already (initially for no real reason) and now I'm really upset by this.

[info]zillah975

:D

I'm excited, y'all. There's actual discussion about my fic over at [info]sga_talk. I'm holding off on joining it because I don't want to go wading in waving my authorial intent around (though honestly, so far it's all been almost embarassingly positive -- I'm kind of waiting for another shoe to drop, probably with cleats, on my ego), but if y'all had anything you wanted to say about it, now's your chance. Feel free to drop some boots, too. Honest. I love me some critical feedback, including the negative stuff. It's how I get to be a better writer.

FIC: A Question of Compromise (7/?) [SGA RPF, Jason/David/Joe, Adult]

Title: A Question of Compromise (7/?)
Author: [info]darkrosetiger
Fandom: SGA RPF (AU)
Pairings/Characters: David Hewlett/Jason Momoa/Joe Flanigan
Length: ~ 2,450 words
Rating: Adult
Summary: After being worked over by Master Shanks, Joe returns to his owners.
Disclaimer: Not RL; didn't happen. If you think this has anything to do with the real actors involved, then you really need to put down the crack pipe. Seriously.
Warnings: Slavefic (inherent non-con), BDSM

Notes: Due to family stuff, Yuletide, and 3 Ships, this may be the last chapter until after the New Year, but fear not: there will be more. I figure I'm leaving y'all in a pretty good place. ;-)

The Michael Shanks appearing here is not at all the same as [info]villeinage's Michael Shanks in Given, or [info]faceofcathy's in Inversion.

I totally and completely blame [info]poisontaster and her CWRPS series A Kept Boy, which made me want to write about the SGA actors in her universe. This is all her fault. Thanks also to [info]telesilla for the beta.

Previous parts can be found here. A who's who with pictures can be found here.

The title is from the Duran Duran song, "Skin Trade"

''David, at this point, we really don't have any moral high ground left, you know>'' )

Maybe I can get a daily post out of it, too. :D

Comment to this post with a subject for a top 5 (ships, characters, books, songs, albums, manga, pet peeves, anything, etc. - feel free to be creative!), and I will reply in a post sometime in the imminent future. Ask for as many as you'd like (within reason!).
